Happy birthday to …

Garvin coached 12 seasons in the IHL, winning the Turner Cup four times — twice in Port Huron, twice in Toledo — and also coached the Red Wings for 11 games in 1973-74. A native of Sarnia, Ont., he was born in 1923. He passed away in 1992 at age 69.

He went from the Ice to a career to play in the AHL, IHL, ECHL, WPHL and CHL, with a pair of 35-goal seasons with the ECHL’s Huntington Blizzard in 1996-97 and 1998-99. He retired during the 2001-02 season, and coached for several years in the CHL. A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, he is 47.

B.J. O’Brien: One of the Indiana Ice’s first goaltenders, he played 17 games for the team in 2004-05. He was 6-7-2 for the Ice with a 3.24 GAA. He also played part of that year in the Tier II NAHL, and went from there to play collegiately at St. Cloud State and Div. III St. Norbert.
