Josh Shalla, who scored 22 goals with the Indy Fuel last season, has signed with the Nottingham Panthers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League.
The EIHL is a common destination for ECHL players. This will be Shalla’s first year overseas after playing five seasons in North America, nearly all of which have been in the ECHL.
Shalla was acquired in December trade with Wheeling and proceeded to score 22 goals and 20 assists in 48 games with the Fuel, tying Alex Wideman for the team goal-scoring lead. He notably drove several hours from Wheeling the day of the trade, suited up and played the last two periods after arriving at game time. The left wing later tallied a Fuel-record four goals in a game on Dec. 27 against Fort Wayne. Overall, he had 32 goals and 28 assists in 71 ECHL games. Overall, he has 104 goals and 203 points in 263 ECHL games and has 16 points in 58 AHL games.
Evan Mosey, who also played with the Fuel while under contract to the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs in 2016-17, has also signed with Nottingham.
Having played more than 260 pro games, the 25-year-old winger is classified as a veteran by ECHL standards.
Josh Shalla joins Brady Ramsay (Sheffield, EIHL) and Kevin Lynch (Syracuse, AHL) as players on the Fuel end-of-season roster who have signed elsewhere. The Fuel have re-signed Nick Bligh and Chris Williams, and also have signed forward Andrew Schmit for 2017-18.
