The Indy Fuel announced Thursday the signing of two forwards – Nick Bligh and Andrew Schmit.
Both players have one full season of professional experience, as Bligh finished last season with the Fuel, while Schmit played his rookie year in the Southern Professional Hockey League.
Acquired in a midseason trade from Adirondack, Bligh brought energy, versatility and strong two-way play to the Fuel. He had 12 goals and 10 assists in 28 games with Indy, and 15 goals and 13 assists overall in 41 ECHL games with South Carolina, Adirondack and Indy. Bligh played four years collegiately at Dartmouth. A right-shot forward, Bligh primarily played center with the Fuel, but also can play the wing.
Schmit brings size to the roster, at 6-5, 220. He had six goals, 16 assists and 91 penalty minutes in 55 games for the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the SPHL last season. He graduated from Miami University in 2016, where he had four goals and 11 assists.
Along with the earlier signing of Chris Williams, the Fuel now have three announced players under contract for the 2017-18 season.
