The Indy Fuel, along with the ECHL’s other teams that played in 2016-17, announced their season-ending rosters Monday.
The Fuel will be able to re-sign players from the season-ending roster or protected list that was released June 1 through the end of the month. Indy may also make qualifying offers to up to eight players on the season-ending roster. If those players are skaters with fewer than 260 games of pro experience or goalies with fewer than 180 games, the team retains that player’s rights for one calendar year. The team retains the rights to qualified veterans through August 1.
The roster includes two players received in trades – Harrison Ruopp and Shane Bakker – and also includes several players who did not finish the year with the Fuel, but played their last ECHL games with the team. Players who finished the season with the Fuel, but were on ECHL or AHL contracts, are not eligible for the season-ending roster.
The list includes eight defensemen and 12 forwards. Six – Zach Miskovic, Drew Schiestel, Kevin Lynch, Michael Neal, Kenny Ryan and Josh Shalla – are veterans. A team may carry up to four veterans at a given time.
Two players from the protected list – Woody Hudson and Marek Tvrdon – were not on the season-ending roster. Tvrdon played much of the year in Europe, while Hudson finished the year with the Fuel. A team could leave a player off the season-ending roster – which is limited to 20 – if it has an agreement in place to sign him prior to June 30.
Nine players were ineligible for the season-ending rosters because they were on AHL or NHL contracts, including goaltenders Jake Hildebrand and Eric Levine. Defensemen Nick Mattson and Robin Press and forwards Chris DeSousa and Evan Mosey were all loaned to the team from the Rockford IceHogs, while forward Jake Marchment was loaned from the San Jose Barracuda. All are free agents. Forward Kenton Helgesen is a restricted free agent under contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. Defenseman Dillon Fournier also is, but he has announced his retirement. Of the players on the season-ending roster, Brady Ramsay has signed to play in Britain next year.
