Indy Fuel forward Alex Wideman has been named the ECHL’s Player of the Week for the past week.
Wideman had four goals and three assists in three weekend games – all Fuel victories. Indy scored 16 goals in the three wins, beating Wheeling 6-1 on Friday and tallying 4-3 and 6-5 victories over Atlanta the next two days. He had a multi-point game in each, with a goal and an assist each in Friday and Saturday’s games, and two goals and an assist Sunday. Twice, he scored within 30 seconds of a Fuel goal allowed – once, to extend a lead to two, the other to give the Fuel a lead.
Wideman also had 14 shots and was +7 for the weekend. He is the Fuel’s leading scorer with seven goals and six assists.
Wideman is in his second pro season, having played the previous year with the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL and the AHL’s Binghamton Senators. He played four years of college hockey at Miami University from 2011-15. He also played two seasons with the USHL’s Indiana Ice from 2009-11.
He becomes the second Fuel player to be honored by the ECHL this season. Goaltender Jake Hildebrand has been named the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Week twice.
The Fuel begin another busy week Wednesday, hosting the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:05 p.m. After a Friday trip to Quad City, Indy returns home for back-to-back games against Missouri at 7:35 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday.
