Indy Fuel netminder Jake Hildebrand was named the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Week with his performance in the first two games.
Hildebrand backstopped both Fuel victories, a 3-1 win over Cincinnati on Friday and a 2-1 victory in Cincinnati the following night. He stopped 56 of the 58 shots sent his way, including a number of spectacular saves, to preserve both victories.
Hildebrand joined the Fuel after signing with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs this summer. He was a four-time team MVP at Michigan State University and won a Kelly Cup championship with Allen after signing with the Americans out of school.
Hildebrand becomes the third Fuel netminder to earn Goaltender of the Week honors. Mac Carruth won the honor in January 2015, and Shane Owen did so in January 2016. Carruth is now with the Rockford IceHogs, while Owen is currently playing in Europe.
Hildebrand and the Fuel will be in action this weekend in Tulsa and Missouri, and return home Oct. 28-29 to face Tulsa and Allen.
