Happy birthday to … 

Randy Taylor: Defenseman for the Ice in 1988-89. He had two goals and 15 assists in 44 games with the team. It was the second of three pro seasons for the Harvard graduate. He played for four different IHL teams and the ECHL’s Virginia Lancers from 1987-90. A native of Cornwall, Ont., he is 51. 

Dave Hakstol: Ice defenseman from 1991-94. He played 168 games for the Ice, with seven goals and 21 assists, as well as 262 penalty minutes. He came to the Ice after a three-year career at the University of North Dakota. He played two more IHL seasons in Minnesota before retiring as a player. In 1996, he embarked on a coaching career that began with four USHL seasons in Sioux City. Since 2000, he has been at the University of North Dakota, first as an assistant, and since 2004, the head coach of one of college hockey’s top programs. He has taken six teams to the NCAA Frozen Four in his head coaching career. He recently finished his first season as coach of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, leading them to a playoff appearance. A native of Drayton Valley, Alberta, he is 48.
