The Indy Fuel announced Tuesday that its affiliate company, Indiana Ice Arenas LLC, will take over some operations of the Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion and the Cheri Daniels Arena at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The building, which is adjacent to the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, has an ice sheet that is operational from September through March, and hosts Fuel practices, as well as a youth hockey league that’s part of the Junior Fuel Hockey Club, local college hockey, public skating and the Winter Club of Indianapolis figure skating club. Indiana Ice Arenas will oversee all staffing and programming for on-ice activities.
Indiana Ice Arenas operates three sheets – two at the Fuel Tank at Fishers and now the one sheet at the Fairgrounds rink.
“We are extremely excited for the opportunity to operate the Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion and Cheri Daniels Arena. The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center has been an integral partner to us since the Fuel arrived in Indianapolis, and we think we can build on the success the Youth Pavilion has seen since it opened its doors three years ago,” Fuel Tank GM Chad Hallett said in a team release. “So much of what we do is directed at growing hockey and ice sports in the Indianapolis area, and the 75 years of tradition at the Fairgrounds and the new Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion will be an invaluable resource toward executing that goal.”
