The Indy Fuel announced Wednesday the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Keegan Asmundson and forward Justin Hussar for the 2016-17 season.
They become the first two players from the past season’s roster to sign for the upcoming year.
Asmundson joined the Fuel mid-season a year ago and became the team’s primary starter by the end of the year. He posted a 2.61 GAA and .917 save percentage in 13 games with Indy. Asmundson has also played for South Carolina and Evansville in the ECHL, as well as Pensacola in the SPHL, since finishing his NCAA career at Canisius College in 2015. He was the Atlantic Hockey Association Goaltender of the Year in 2015, his senior year.
Asmundson is a 6-foot-5, 25-year-old netminder.
Hussar signed with the Fuel out of Merrimack College, where he was a teammate of Rhett Bly. He had seven goals and eight assists in 38 games last season for Merrimack, and also played two games with the Fuel. He had 15 goals and 15 assists in 102 college games at Merrimack.
Along with Slovakian forward Martin Bellus, the signings give the Fuel three players under contract for 2016-17. The Fuel also will have the ability to protect up to eight more players from their 2015-16 roster by June 30.
