Indy Fuel goaltender Shane Owen was named the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Week after an outstanding weekend in which he won both of his starts, and posted a shutout.
Owen got the start on Saturday night against Evansville, and stopped 32 shots – including several spectacular saves on close-in attempts – to shut out Evansville 3-0. It was Owen’s second shutout as a member of the Fuel, and his first this season. Eighteen hours after that game ended, he was back between the pipes in Wheeling, where he stopped 39 shots to beat the Nailers 3-2.
Owen posted a 1.00 GAA and a .973 save percentage in his two starts over the weekend. This season, he has a 2.36 GAA and .920 save percentage. He is eighth in the ECHL among active goaltenders in GAA, and seventh in save percentage.
Owen is the second Fuel goaltender to receive the designation. Mac Carruth was named Goaltender of the Week on Jan. 27, 2015.
