Fuel re-sign McGuire, Schneider; Rockford inks Carruth

The Indy Fuel re-signed two players from their inaugural season roster Monday, announcing the signings of Johnny McGuire and Peter Schneider.

They become the 10th and 11th forwards to sign with the Fuel for the upcoming season. The preseason roster now has 15 players – 11 forwards, three defensemen and goaltender Shane Owen.

They also become the eighth and ninth players to re-sign with the team, joining Owen, defensemen Anders Franzon and Andy Simpson, and forwards Garett Bembridge, Rhett Bly, Kyle Stroh and Matt White.

McGuire joined the Fuel during training camp in 2014-15 and played 20 games with the team, scoring one goal. He gave the team depth at forward and brought much toughness, tallying 56 penalty minutes in his 20 games.

He will be entering his third pro season, having played 18 games in 2013-14 – seven with AHL Rochester and 11 with ECHL Idaho. McGuire is a right-shot winger who will turn 22 at the end of the month. He brings size, at 6-1, 205. McGuire scored his lone goal last season on Feb. 6 in a win over Evansville.

Schneider, a right wing who will be playing his sixth consecutive season in Indiana, joined the Fuel in March after the conclusion of his collegiate season at Notre Dame. Playing wing, he made an immediate impact by tallying four goals and four assists in 10 games. He was also +4 in those 10 games.

He previously played four seasons at Notre Dame, with 22 goals and 25 assists in 138 college games. He was an alternate captain with the Irish as a senior. In 2010-11, he was a 30-goal scorer in junior with the USHL Indiana Ice.

A native of Vienna, Austria, Schneider is a 5-11, 191-pound winger with a powerful shot who is 24 years old.

In organizational news, goaltender Mac Carruth signed an AHL deal with the Rockford IceHogs. Carruth was 17-13-9 with a 2.55 GAA and three shutouts with the Fuel last season, and also played three games in Rockford, with one shutout. Carruth becomes the fifth goaltender in the organization, joining Mark Visentin on AHL contracts. Veteran Michael Leighton is also under NHL contract to Chicago and is expected to start the year in Rockford, with Scott Darling and Corey Crawford in Chicago.
