Bruneteau headed to Norway

Indy Fuel defenseman Nick Bruneteau is headed to play hockey in Norway in the 2015-16 season.

Several sources confirmed Thursday that Bruneteau had signed with the Stavanger Oilers.

Bruneteau developed into one of the ECHL’s top defenders during his first full pro season. He had three goals and a team-high 35 assists, and was among the ECHL leaders in rookie assists, defenseman assists and power play assists. He quarterbacked a Fuel PP that was in the top half of the league.

Bruneteau also was an alternate captain with the Fuel for much of the season.

Acquired via trade from Reading prior to the season, Bruneteau became the fourth member of his family to play for the Fuel, joining older brother Brett, who played for the Indiana Ice in the USHL, as well as his grandfather Ed and great-uncle Modere, who played for the Capitals.

He becomes the third player from the 2014-15 Fuel team to European squad, joining Mike Duco (England) and Doug Jessey (France). Saverio Posa is also reportedly heading to play in Italy. The Fuel have issued qualifying offers to Jessey, Posa and Bruneteau, and will retain their ECHL rights for one year.
