Fuel re-sign White, add RW Wintoneak

The Indy Fuel continue to bolster their forward corps for 2015-16, as they announced the signings of their third and fourth players for the upcoming season.

The Fuel re-signed forward Matt White and added 26-year-old rookie right wing Walker Wintoneak.

White joins Rhett Bly as players who have been re-signed from last year’s roster. Wintoneak is the second rookie to be signed, joining forward Casey Thrush. Bly and Thrush’s signings were announced last week.

White was the only player to suit up in all 72 games during the Fuel’s inaugural season, tallying 11 goals and 11 assists. He was a key part of the team’s shorthanded unit and played a strong role at both center and left wing, primarily filling a checking line role. He had a pair of shorthanded tallies in 2014-15. White was one of four University of Vermont alumni to suit up for the Fuel during their inaugural season.

Wintoneak comes to the Fuel after spending four years playing right wing at the University of Calgary. He’ll bring size, standing 6-3, 210 pounds. At age 26, he has a lot of hockey experience. He played four full seasons of Major Junior hockey in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades, and tallied 31 goals and 59 points in 2008-09, then followed it up with a 25-goal, 74-point season in 2009-10. In total, he had 169 points in 274 junior games.

He has since played four seasons over five years at the University of Calgary, where he has been a consistent scorer. He had 46 goals and 41 assists in 102 regular-season college games (and 16 points in 27 playoff games), and had one assist in four games this past regular season, and a goal and an assist in four playoff games. He is a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Wintoneak, known as “Walker Texas Ranger” in junior hockey, also has pro experience, having played 20 games in 2010-11 for the Missouri Mavericks, coached by current Fuel mentor Scott Hillman. He had eight goals and nine assists in 20 Central Hockey League games.
