The Indy Fuel have a new leading scorer, as Jonathan Parker was activated on Tuesday, and they’ve added another player as of Wednesday morning, as forward Vincent Arseneau was loaned to the Fuel by the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs.
In other moves, forward Robert Czarnik was traded to the Ontario Reign Tuesday. The Fuel announced the trade Wednesday afternoon.
In other moves, Fuel defenseman Mathieu Brisebois has been called up to the AHL Rockford IceHogs for the second time this season. Brisebois, who is under contract to the Chicago Blackhawks, has two goals and 12 assists in 31 games with the Fuel. On Wednesday, the Fuel announced they have traded the rights to Bobby Hughes to Brampton in exchange for future considerations. Hughes’ rights were acquired via trade from Gwinnett earlier this season.
Parker tallied 10 goals and 16 assists in 28 games with the Colorado Eagles, and was acquired in a trade from the Eagles last week in exchange for future considerations. He becomes the team’s leader in points and assists and is second to Garett Bembridge (12) in goals scored. He is a 23-year-old who has 27 goals and 40 assists in 81 ECHL games with Gwinnett, Colorado and Ontario since turning pro in 2011-12. He also has six goals and six assists in 67 AHL games with the Rochester Americans during that time. He is in the midst of his highest-scoring pro season. Parker is a 5-10, 195-pound right-shot forward from Solana Beach, California.
Arseneau had played 17 games for the Ontario Reign, with a goal and an assist. He also has 62 penalty minutes. He is a 6-2, 200-pound left wing in his second full pro season. He had 24 goals and 37 points in 47 games for the CHL’s Denver Cutthroats last year, and had an assist and 105 PIM in 24 AHL games with the Lake Erie Monsters at the end of the 2012-13 season and again in 2013-14. He was a consistent double-digit goal scorer in junior hockey in the QMJHL. He hails from Iles-de-la-Madeline, Quebec. He had played for Ontario this season, was called up from Ontario to Manchester on Tuesday and then loaned to Indy. Manchester is an AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.
Parker and Arseneau become the fourth and fifth forwards – and the fifth and sixth players – added to the Fuel roster in trades since last week, joining forwards Evan Vossen, Kyle Stroh and Nicklas Lindberg and goaltender Shane Owen.
Czarnik goes from Indy to Ontario having scored 17 goals and assisted on 13 in 31 games with the Fuel. The Detroit native had been drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2008 draft, and had played in their organization in the AHL from 2011-14, before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens at the deadline and playing the remainder of the 2013-14 season for the Habs’ AHL affiliate in Hamilton. Czarnik re-joins the Los Angeles organization in Ontario, a team owned by the same parent company as the Kings. He did not play in the two road games this weekend prior to the trade being announced by the ECHL Tuesday.
“Making the decision to trade our leading scorer was certainly a difficult one,” Fuel head coach Scott Hillman said in a team release. “With the recent additions to our team and the ones to come in the next few days, we feel we have a much more balanced attack and a group of guys eager to compete together with one common goal — to battle ourselves into playoff position and give our fans a product to be proud of. We will not rest until we are there.”
The Fuel continue a six-game roadtrip with games at Greenville Thursday and Friday, then at South Carolina Saturday and at Gwinnett Monday afternoon.
