July 29 in Indianapolis hockey history

Happy birthday to …

Ted Lindsay: Played one game for the Capitals as a rookie in 1944-45. He was scoreless in the game, but his participation was a source of controversy, as he had been sent down from the Red Wings, for whom he scored 17 goals in 45 games that season. Because he was immediately called back up to Detroit, his participation in one game with the Capitals violated an AHL rule that required players be sent down for a minimum number of games, and as a result, the Capitals were forced to forfeit a game against Hershey. It would be the only minor-league game of Lindsay’s Hall of Fame career, which spanned 1944-60 — and again in 1964-65 — with the Red Wings and Blackhawks. He joined Gordie Howe and Sid Abel on the “Production Line,” one of hockey’s most feared trios of the 1950s. He had 78 points in 1950 to win the Art Ross trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer. He won four Stanley Cups with the Red Wings between 1950 and 1955. He was also instrumental in the founding of the NHL Players’ Association, which caused the Red Wings to trade him to Chicago in 1958. He came out of retirement in 1964-65 for one season. In 1,068 NHL games, he had 379 goals and 472 assists, as well as 1,808 penalty minutes. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, and his number 7 has been retired by the Red Wings. In retirement, he has been both a broadcaster, coach and general manager of the Red Wings. A native of Renfrew, Ont., he is 89.

Dave Cameron: Checkers center from 1979-81. In 148 games with the team, he had 55 goals and 51 assists, as well as 257 penalty minutes. He had a 40-goal, 70-point season in 1980-81. The Colorado Rockies picked him up the following year and he played most of the next three seasons in the NHL for the Rockies — and later, after the team moved in 1982, the New Jersey Devils. He had 53 points in 168 NHL games. He retired after playing the 1984-85 season in the NHL — and came out of retirement for one game 10 years later. He began a long coaching career in 1995 in the old Colonial Hockey League, and has also been a head coach in the OHL, AHL and for the last three seasons, an assistant for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. A native of Charlottetown, PEI, he is 56.

Scott Bell: Right wing who played two games for the Ice in 1995-96, scoring one goal. He played sporadically as a professional between 1994-2000, but his one full-time season was 1995-96. Between three teams in two leagues, he had 29 goals and 24 assists in 69 games. He has since been a head coach in the UHL and, most recently, at NCAA Div. III Hamline University. A native of Inver Grove Heights, Mich., he is 43.

Drew Mayer: Forward who played 21 games for the Ice from 2010-12. He scored two goals and had three assists in those games. He played most of the 2012-13 season in the NAHL, and most recently, the 2013-14 season in the USHL with Tri-City. A native of Troy, Mich., he is 21.

Austin Swingle: Forward who had nine scoreless games for the Ice in 2012-13. He played the 2013-14 season in the NAHL with the Aberdeen Wings. A native of Sartell, Minn., he is 19.

Nevertheless, through what I have seen, I just wish as the actual feedback pile on that people today keep on point and in no way get started upon a soap box regarding the news du jour. Still, thank you for this outstanding point and whilst I can not go along with it in totality, I regard your point of view.
